Egg fasts and fat fasts have become very popular over the years in the low carb, keto community. Sadly, I won’t be taking part in an egg fast anytime soon. I recently had a complete food allergy testing panel done. It tested more than 90 different foods. It came back that I have several common food allergies. I am allergic to eggs, casein, whey, dairy, and gluten. I already knew that I was gluten intolerant and have been living gluten free for quite some time now. I also suspected that dairy and eggs were becoming problematic for me. Whenever I ate eggs, which was A LOT, I immediately got very congested, nasally and would cough. The same thing with dairy. I ignored it for a long time, trying to pretend it wasn’t an issue. It’s amazing how you can let yourself become conditioned to things. It’s almost like you forget how good it feels to feel good. I didn’t realize just how bad eggs and dairy were affecting me until I did an elimination diet. After about 3 weeks, I tried to re-introduce eggs and not only were all the symptoms still there, but they seemed so much worse. See, I forgot how good it felt to feel good. This sudden onset of food allergies and these particular food allergies are just one more indicator that I definitely have leaky gut, as well as a lot of inflammation going on in my body. I am hopeful that if I continue to avoid the foods that are problematic for me, continue taking my digestive enzymes and probiotics, drink lots of bone broth and work on some other gut healing protocols that I will eventually be able to reintroduce eggs. I’m pretty sure I dedicated an entire day of my Instagram stories to the topic of food allergies and food allergy testing. I am convinced now more than ever of our ability to heal ourselves with food.
