Substitutions and Swaps
- Add some heavy creamy to make this a creamy bolognese sauce
- Amp up the nutrient density and add some sautéed vegetables - carrots, celery, onions, mushrooms etc.
- Sub 2 tablespoons dried minced onion if you don't have any fresh onions
- Use fresh herbs in place of dried herbs. A good rule of thumb for substituting dry herbs with fresh herbs is that you will use 3 times as many fresh herbs. For example, 1 teaspoon of dried oregano would be equal to 1 tablespoon of chopped fresh oregano.
- Use any combination of meat you prefer - ground beef, lamb, veal, turkey, or even ground chicken
- Add some fresh grated parmigian0-reggiano
- Skip the meat altogether and make a marinara sauce

Can this meat sauce be frozen or made ahead?

Yes to both

It’s a good recipe but would be even better you used metric as well as imperial measures. I Everywhere else’s uses metric so are your recipes meant only for Americans? They are great recipes so thank you for them but just a little frustrating!

Hi Kyndra, I'm looking forward to making this! Question. Does this recipe yield enough to stuff 8 peppers for your keto stuffed lasagna peppers?
Thanks
Kyndra Holley says
Yes, it makes a large batch and will work for that recipe just great.

How is this 3 net grams of carbs per serving is the paste has 25 net grams and the sauce has 24 net grams? That's nearly 50 net grams of carbs in the recipe before onions. Do the net carbs go down after cooking?
Kyndra Holley says
Hi Heidi -- this recipe makes 25 servings, each serving is 1/4 cup. I hope that helps!

Honestly, I wasn't expecting anything amazing given the simplicity of the recipe, but this sauce is SO good. I added an extra 8oz can tomato sauce since mine seemed a *tad* bit on the dry side. I'm glad I did because I don't think I would have enough sauce for your eggplant lasagna otherwise! But even with the added sauce, the flavor was on point. Thank you, thank you for a wonderful and super simple sauce!
