How to Color Match SEINT Makeup

This guide will help you figure out how to color match SEINT Makeup (formerly Maskcara), to find your perfect highlight and contour colors based on your skin tone.

    My experience before Maskcara makeup

Typically, I never wear full coverage makeup. I don’t enjoy looking cakey or like I’m wearing a mask - and honestly, it just seemed like too much effort. Not that I am lazy, but I like my face and I have relatively good skin, so why would I spend an hour trying to bake a cake on it? I opted instead to just stick with eye makeup. In fact, I didn’t wear any product on my face for more than 15 years - only eye makeup.

What I failed to realize until recently was just how much face products had changed over the last 15 years. Sometimes things just get memorialized in your mind how you last saw them. When I thought of foundation, I instantly thought of a bottle of Cover Girl and a crumbling, dirty wedge sponge. In fact, just typing that was enough for me to recall the smell of the foundation. Those were the days when your makeup stopped at your jawline and your face was a different color than your neck. Made worse, only by the fact that you would then cake on 15 layers of pressed powder from a compact, praying that you didn’t shatter the disc of powder or the mirror, every time you dropped it. Does this sound familiar? I feel like maybe I am recalling the makeup memories of an entire generation and not just my own.

    How I found Seint Makeup

I found Seint back in late 2019 when it was still Maskcara Beauty. I started following several different Maskcara artists on Instagram and YouTube. I watched video after video of them applying the 3d foundation -- they all made it look so easy and flawless, and the before and after photos certainly spoke for themselves. But even when I watch videos and things appear seemingly easy, I always wonder how many times they did it off camera so that it could look effortless on camera. Nonetheless, it was enough to make me want to give it a go for myself. Because if I could apply it, then anyone could.

Another thing that is very important to me is that I always make a concerted effort to avoid brands that use endocrine disrupting ingredients, (not just for makeup, but for all products I use) which typically means the full glam stuff is automatically ruled out.

I got curious and looked up the ingredients in Seint IIID foundation and I was pleasantly surprised that nothing rated over a 4 on EWG’s Skin Deep database. It actually has very clean, simple ingredients. It is kind of amazing how few ingredients it has actually - liquid paraffin, Petrolatum, ozokerite wax, beeswax, acetyl esters, lanolin, zinc stearate, phenoxylethanol, iron oxides, titanium dioxide, ultramarines.

After watching a LOT of IGTV videos, I decided to go all in and order a Pro Artist Kit so that I could swatch all of the foundation singles and really get a feel for the products, the brushes, and the application process. The first time I did my makeup, it went on so smooth and blended super easily. My skin looked glowy and flawless, and my makeup lasted all day. Not only does Seint have great products, but they developed a technique that anyone can follow. I was immediately impressed.

What is Seint Makeup (3d foundation)?

Seint (Formerly Maskcara) is a makeup line created by Cara Killpack in 2013. Using cream foundations, highlights, contours, and blushes, Maskcara enhances skin tone, color corrects, camouflages blemishes and dark circles, sculpts features and creates the “perfect lighting” on your face all in one quick application. This is called HACing (highlight and contour).

Cream makeup is very forgiving and blendable, so it makes a great option for makeup beginners. The application method that you learn with Maskcara makeup is completely foolproof; trust me when I say if I can do it, you can do it! It is also an amazing value because a little goes a long way.

All of the Seint Beauty colors come in magnetic tins so that you can create your own custom palette, using only the colors you want and need - no waste. Gone are the days of reaching the bottom of the tin on some of your colors, while the others remain untouched.

This guide will help you figure out how to color match Maskcara Makeup, to find your perfect highlight and contour colors based on your skin tone. | Peace Love and Low Carb

    Find your undertone

Your undertone is different from your skin tone, which we’ll get to in just a minute. Undertone refers to the shadows in your skin. There are a few easy ways to figure it out.

First, look at the veins on the inside of your wrists -- blue veins = cool undertone, green veins = warm undertone, blue-green veins = neutral undertone.

Next, you’ll think of what colors you gravitate towards in your wardrobe. If cool colors like blue and white look good on you, you have cool undertones. Alternatively, if you prefer warmer colors like oranges, reds, and cream, you have warm undertones. And finally, if you wear a little bit of everything, you have neutral undertones.

You can use the same strategy with jewelry -- if you typically select yellow gold jewelry, you have warm tones. Prefer white gold or platinum? You have cool tones.

    Assess your skin tone

After you figure out your undertone, it’s much easier to find the perfect color match for your skin tone. Skin tone is the overall color of your skin -- usually described as fair, light, medium, dark, or deep.

I think the easiest way to get a great color match is to take a makeup free selfie in front of a window with indirect light, then compare to someone with similar coloring. I put together a grid with a few examples below. Start building your custom palette - HERE.

A graphic with 9 different examples of color match selfies and the IIID foundation and contour used for each selfie.

Keep in mind that Maskcara makeup is meant to blend into the skin; you can wear a few shades lighter or darker than your skin tone and it will still blend effortlessly. This is why you may see a few selfies that look similar in skin tone, but have different bases and highlights listed. Start building your custom palette - HERE.

The base color (main highlight color) should be close to your natural skin tone, and your brightening highlight color will be a bit lighter -- this is where knowing your undertone comes in handy. The brightening highlight is used for areas where you want to create the illusion of more light hitting your face to accentuate your features - under your eyes, the center of your forehead, and down the middle of your face.
