Wednesday 9/30 – Day 50 – Week 8, Day 1
Starting Date: 8/12/15
Starting Weight: 274 lbs
Current Weight: 258 lbs
Pounds Lost: 20
Pounds to Goal: 80
Goal Weight: 174
Goal Date: 8/27/16
Height: 5′ 9″
It has been a couple of weeks since I took new pictures and weighed myself in the same week. The results are in… 4 pounds down for Week 7. That brings my 7 week total to 20 pounds lost. Last week was a pretty mild week for me. I was sick and I didn’t really work out at all. I also didn’t really rest as much as I should have. I was busy with projects. Speaking of… check out my new “Chalkboard PR/Motivation Wall” in our garage gym. I love the way it turned out. Tomorrows workout will probably be getting all of the equipment back in the gym.
I wanted to start this week of by talking about your “Circle of Influence” I love this quote by Jim Rohn and I have been thinking about it a lot lately as it is so true both personally and professionally.
“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with”
Let that sink in for a moment. It is such a powerful sentiment. Now, think of your circle of influence… Who are the 5 people you spend the most time with? This doesn’t necessarily have to mean face to face time. Who are you chatting online with the most? Who are you talking on the phone with the most? Who is in your ear and in your heart?
Do you have your 5 people in mind? Are these people lifting you up and elevating you as a person? Are they supportive, loving and nurturing? Do they inspire and motivate you? Do they have qualities and character that you admire and would hope to emulate?
If you aren’t saying yes to these questions, you may need to reassess your current circle of influence. Negativity breeds negativity. The same is true with positivity. So why not surround yourself with positive people?
If you want to succeed in life, you need to align yourself with the right people. If you don’t, you are doing a great disservice to yourself. You are worth it! You deserve to be surrounded by people that will lift you up and support you in whatever life throws your way. Having a positive circle of influence is so important to finding success on this journey. My hope for you is that you are surrounded by people that love you and support you. If not, my hope for you is that you will take the necessary steps in life to see that you are.
Thursday 10/1 – Day 51
Today I am grateful for the opportunity to earn a living doing something that I truly love. When it comes to their career choice, many people do not take the risk necessary to reap the rewards. Taking that initial leap of faith was the best decision I have ever made.
Today I got out for a nice walk in the fall sunshine. It was supposed to be some time for quiet reflection as I got my body moving, but it ended up being a 3 mile phone call with my accountant. Not the mental refueling I was striving for. But, it did result in a longer walk than I initially set out for.
What I ate:
For breakfast I kept it simple with a big plate of eggs and sausage. You can never go wrong with that. I’m just now starting to get my appetite back after being sick. I am trying to be more mindful about eating breakfast. I am never hungry in the mornings. My first meal of the day doesn’t usually come until 1 pm. There are different schools of thought regarding this, but for me personally, I need to force myself to eat in the morning to sustain the necessary energy to get through my day. Otherwise, I feel lethargic and like I am dragging.
Friday 10/2 – Day 52
Today I am grateful for the coziness of a fireplace and a blanket on a crisp day. When I think about the fact that my work day includes these things, I feel incredibly lucky.
Today I went a few round with BOB. This is me giving him my best pre-fight stink eye. Such a great workout and an awesome way to get out some frustrations.
20 minutes boxing with BOB
100 Abmat Sit-ups
What I ate:
For breakfast I had a sausage and veggie scramble with peppers, onions, garlic and mushrooms, topped with goat cheese, chives and Green Dragon Sauce. I love, love, love goat cheese. Especially on eggs.
Did you know that most brands of tuna list soy as one of the ingredients? Costco has a clean, soy free Skipjack tuna. It is delicious! When I am feeling. Like something quick and packed with protein, I eat a can of tuna with a little creamy Caesar dressing and coarsely ground black pepper.
Saturday 10/3 – Day 53
Today I am grateful for my thirst for knowledge and love of researching. The fact that researching is a passion allows me to help others with the knowledge that I obtain.
No workout today. It wasn’t necessarily a planned rest day, but I am still okay with it. It was a productive day in other areas. I spent a good part of my morning teaching an Essential Oils 101 for Pets class at our local dog groomer. It was such an amazing and engaging group of ladies. Just as I am passionate about natural health and wellness for us humans, I am deeply passionate about the health and wellness of our fur babies.
I am loving doing these face to face photos. You can see more on my Instagram – Here. It is a great way to measure progress without relying on the scale. If you have been following along with me on this journey, then you know the scale hasn’t moved a ton for me in the last couple of weeks. However, this photo tells a different story. Don’t forget to celebrate all the non-scale victories. The photo on the left was from Week 1 and the photo on the right was taken today. 7 1/2 week later. Goodbye wheat belly and wheat face. Goodbye inflammation.
What I ate:
For dinner we had Parmesan Dijon Crusted Pork Chops. So simple to make and so full of flavor. The leftovers will be great with eggs tomorrow morning.
Sunday 10/4 – Day 54
Today I am grateful for coffee. There are few things so simple that bring me that much joy. As much as I love pumpkin spice lattes and mochas, there is just something about a steaming hot mug of dark roast black coffee. It took me YEARS to like black coffee. It wasn’t until my third round of Whole30 that I finally managed to develop a taste for it. Now, black coffee and bullet proof coffee is my jam.
Best workout day I’ve had in a while. You know what got my heart pounding the most and had me drenched in sweat? Yard work! I love accidental exercise. A workout, a 4 mile walk and an hour and a half of yard work. It was our shrubs that lost weight today. They were so overgrown. I am by no means a topiary master, but they look so much better. It was a beautiful day to be outside. The beautiful fall colors were all around me and the trees are shedding their leaves. It was like walking in a rainstorm of color.
Worked stations today. 2 minutes work, 1 minute rest. (In hind sight, I should have written it with only a 30 second rest) but the universe works as it should. Still not up to full respiratory capacity from being sick, so the 1 minute rest during the second half of the workout felt appropriate.
2 Minutes Each Station
Walked 4.27 Miles
What I ate:
Tonight for dinner I had a skillet seared tenderloin, green beans and scallops in a cream sauce with mushrooms and peas. The scallop mixture is from Trader Joes. It is DELISH!
Okay, here goes nothing. Time to wear something else besides yoga pants and maxi dresses (the yoga pants of the dress world.) Time to branch out in my wardrobe and embrace my changing body. Time to feel sexy. Time to feel confident. and time to have someone pick out clothes that fit my body type and my style. I am probably the last person on earth to do so, but I am giving Stitch Fix a try. Check it out – Here Have you tried it? Did you like it? What did you think of the clothes that they sent you? Keepers?
EEKK! 8 Days until my first fix gets here. Can’t wait to see the clothes they picked for me. Working from home has it’s perks but it can also be tragic for your wardrobe. Even more, can’t wait to see if they fit. I’m not down to a 14 which they say is their top size. I took a risk and joined anyway since clothes label sizes are never accurate. It will be nice to rack up another milestone and have them fit though. I’ll keep you posted! Wish me luck!
Today I was asked the following question and I thought it was worth sharing – “in the last month of you doing this have you just ever wanted to give up? And just not work out or eat low carb? Just wanted to eat that candy bar or be lazy? How are you staying motivated?”
This was my response – “Every day! Every day I have to make a conscious choice to keep going. Every day I have to choose healthy foods over the wrong foods. Every day I have to choose to workout.
I’ve learned a few things with my weight loss and weight gain. The biggest thing and the one I focus on a lot in my daily posts is mental and emotional wellness. I don’t believe that you can ever make a complete physical transformation until you have put in the work mentally and emotionally. Depression and anxiety plague so many people with weight issues and until you can get to the root of it, break it down, figure out your triggers and work on getting better, I don’t think it’s truly possible to have a lasting physical transformation. I have put in a lot of work mentally and emotionally to make sure I am successful at lasting change this time around. It really has made all the difference in the world.
As for feeling lazy, yes almost daily. But I remind myself how much better I will feel once I workout. Take this morning for example, I woke up with a major case of the crabbies. I knew I could sweat it out and in turn change the entire course of my day. I did exactly that. I came straight downstairs and walked directly into the garage. Had I stopped to sit on the couch or pick up my computer, my workout would not have happened. As a result of that morning workout, I have had a happy, positive and productive day.
As for the food, yes, bad foods still sound good to me. But I make it a point to keep only the right foods in my house and we haven’t been eating out. Only twice in 8 weeks. That is huge for us. Some times we ate out twice in one day.
It’s all about choices. Even for me. Have you asked yourself “why” you want to lose the weight? The immediate answer would seem so simple, but if you dig into it further, that is usually where you will find your motivation.”
Monday 10/5 – Day 55
Today I am grateful for cozy blankets. Some days it is the simplest things that make me happy.
Todays workout was a fun one and a real butt kicker. I went to the Group Strength class at our local gym. It was a heart pumping and sweaty hour. I wish I had gotten a picture or two to show you. I will be going back on Friday and will get some pics then.
What I ate:
Breakfast was good ole’ fashioned bacon and eggs. You can never go wrong with that.
Dinner tonight was low carb and gluten free pizza. Seahawks on Monday night football and pizza. What more could I ask for? You can find my pizza crust recipe – Here. You can find my Low Carb, Paleo Pizza Sauce recipe – Here
Tuesday 10/6 – Day 56
I can’t believe that today marks the close of Week 8. Where has the time gone? 8 weeks gone by in the blink of an eye. If you are reading along on my daily journey posts and haven’t yet gotten started yet, what are you waiting for? While the days may feel long, the weeks and months slip by before you know it. Now that we are this far in and it has gone by so fast, aren’t you wishing you would have started 8 weeks ago? Don’t let another day slip by. START TODAY! I am here to help you. In fact, there is an army of 8000 other supportive people there to help you in the Peace Love and Low Carb Friends Group.
Today I am grateful for our home gym and the feeling I have when I am in there. It feels like my sanctuary. Like a place where nothing can touch me. Safe, inviting and a place where I can just put it all out there.
Todays workout was a good one. I truly did put it all out there. I gave it my all and kept pushing even when I got tired. I just kept telling myself “The only thing holding you back is… YOU!” When I was done working out, I decided that should be the first thing written on the new chalkboard wall. Love it! I officially want to chalkboard paint EVERYTHING!
Todays workout was just the kick in the pants I needed. I gave it my all, pushed through, and felt so damn good afterwards. It was the kind of workout that left me feeling like I could conquer the world.
30 Calorie Row
30 Box Jumps – 20 inch box
30 Power Cleans – 65 lbs.
30 Abmat Sit-ups
30 Front Squats – 65 lbs.
30 Kettlebell Swings – 26 lbs.
30 Wall Balls – 12 lbs.
Time – 25:25
What I ate:
I know I have been showing you guys a lot of breakfasts lately. Sometimes I eat breakfast for lunch or dinner. I love traditional breakfast foods any time of day. Today this actually was a breakfast though. Black forest ham topped with gouda cheese, fried eggs and the hollandaise recipe from my book.
After my workout I had my favorite protein shake. I mixed it up a little this time and added a tbsp of Organic Chia Seeds. Chia seeds are an amazing superfood with a lot of health benefits, but they are also a great source of extra fiber. This drink is less than 3 net carbs total and it tastes like Captain Crunch cereal… without all the gunk.
Thats a wrap on Week 8. Tell me one goal you have as we head into week 9?? I’m taking Week 9 off from daily posting. I will catch back up with all of you in Week 10. Make Week 9 a good one!
